Expectations and Guidelines
In a chaotic world, sometimes a little structure can help us stress less.
1. 24 hour call out rule. Here is how this will work.
- This is pretty simple and straightforward. If you call out with more than 24 hours before your next appointment, then there is no cost associated with the cancellation. If you cancel and there is less than 24 hours before your appointment, then I will invoice for the cost of the appointment that was cancelled.
2. The 10 minute rule.
This is less of a rule and more of just a heads up to all of my families. Sometimes I am a few minutes late. However, just the same, sometimes I finish a few minutes early with a student and I arrive there a bit early. Generally speaking, my rule of thumb goes that if I am more than 10 minutes late, I am going to try and make up whatever time I missed and give that back to the student and their families.
3. Payment methods.
This is just a quick list of all the different methods of payment I currently accept.
- Zelle
- Venmo
- Paypal
- Cash
4. Promotion
I have been asked by a few parents before if it is okay to comment and promote for me on some of the posts I make. I just want to clarify that if you ever wish to do that, I am completely okay with that and encourage it.
5. Homework
This is less of a rule and more of something that has come up often and I would like to take a moment to address it here. As we all know, homework has a tendency to fluctuate in the amount that is provided to the student. I recognize that it is easy to justify a cancellation if your student has no homework. The only thing I want to say on that regard is that I can provide so much more than just homework assistance! In my years of education experience, I learned how to write my own questions, develop and write study material for students, as well as learned strategies to not only bring students up to the standards but help them shoot ahead. If you look on my website, I offer additional services such as Writing Labs, Math Labs, and other specialized services that can seriously hone a student's specific skill and help them master it!
6. Fill ins
Many of you have experienced this before, especially my families from last year. Sometimes there is a call out, and I will try to fill that spot with someone else. Fill ins are seen as completely optional. No parent will be obligated to change the original scheduled appointment, or add another one, simply because someone else called out. When I call, it is usually done as an offer, and if the parents want to take it than they are completely entitled to. Just the same, they are equally entitled to retain their originally scheduled appointment or decline.
7. Monthly payment set up
I offer more set ups than just week to week payments! Some clients prefer to pay in advance on a month by month basis, and that works fine for me too. Here is how that system works: I have a document you will sign, and that document states a few key pieces of information. One, when doing month to month, no tutoring can occur until payment has been received. The next thing is, since you have prepaid for your time, there is no cancellation fee when you miss or cancel an appointment. If you are month to month and cancel an appointment, I will always do my best to reschedule and help get your hour back elsewhere.
Those are all of the expectations I can think of for now. If anymore are developed, I will be sure to post about it on the Facebook page as well as discuss it with each of my families first. I try not to make any changes without first talking with everyone to discuss how they feel about them. On that note, If any of you have questions about what is being written here today, please do not hesitate to reach out to me and ask. As with everything in this business, negotiation and flexibility will remain core pillars of my mission to provide everyone with a quality educational experience. Thank you for taking the time to read, and remember, Learning is a breeze when you tutor with Devries!
